Welcome to the Copeland Community Learning and Skills webpage. On this page you will find a whole host of courses and workshops available for you to view, book and enrol. There is also a chance to meet our Copeland team. 

We have a wide range of courses on offer from GCSE Maths and English, Digital Skills, Employability and even Photography courses! Covering the whole of Copeland, from Whitehaven to Millom and as far out as Broughton-in-Furness.

Liam Darby - Centre Manager
I have worked for Community Learning and Skills for 7 years initially joining the service as an Intermediate Business and Administration Apprentice back in 2013. Having recently joined the Copeland Team, I am looking forward to meeting you all.
Ann Garside - Development Worker
I have worked for Community Learning and Skills for the past ten years, originally starting as a tutor and then for the past 8 years as the Community Development Worker for Copeland. I am very passionate about my role and absolutely believe that learning and education should be accessible to all.  I think that education above all else can make a real difference to people's lives. The favourite parts of my role are meeting new learners and talking about the great courses we have on offer and developing relationships with other organisations.
Emma Routledge - Business Support Officer
My name is Emma. I love my job and being part of the Copeland team. It's very rewarding when people reach their educational goals with us, and results day is especially exciting!
Our Tutors
Guido Endlein – Maths Tutor
The tutor Guido Endlein has a degree in Architecture & Construction. He has lived and worked in England for the past 15 years as a teacher of Mathematics having completed a PGCSE and a Secondary Maths teaching qualification at level 6. Guido has taught GCSE and Functional Maths for Adults for the past 8 years achieving excellent results for his students.
Joanna Clark – Employability Tutor
Joanna has been teaching in Primary Schools in Cumbria for 7 years, prior to that she was a Retail Manager for two of the biggest retail chains in the UK. She began with Cumbria County Council in Community Learning in 2017. She uses her previous retail experience in her Employability courses to aid learning and understanding for the learners. Also uses her teaching experience and knowledge in her Family learning courses to make them fun and informative. She is a people person who aims to make learning inspiring and fun for all.
Elizabeth Walker – English Tutor
Liz has been teaching English for two years.  She also works at Lakes College, supporting students with additional needs, including autism and dyslexia. She decided to re-train as an English teacher in 2016. She has recently completed a PGCE. Liz aims to engage your interest in learning English through a wide range of topics, activities and different learning styles. Her lessons are relaxed and friendly. She will take you through the essential skills you need in order to succeed.
Fiona Ashford – Design Tutor
Fiona Ashford is a jack of all things design related, she is qualified in Fashion, Textile and Surface Pattern Design, as well as Horticulture and Landscape Design. However her interests encompass many subjects including growing her own and spending many hours in the kitchen cooking up tasty healthy food. Passionate about interiors she has renovated properties and built gardens, filling her home with furniture she has painted, her own watercolour pictures, and textiles up cycled from lovely old stuff. Having learned many paper crafting skills while selling craft products, she then went on to demonstrate craft products, for Design Objectives in stores throughout Cumbria and Scotland. Now she would very much like to share her passions with anyone else who has an interest in the things she loves.
Sara Barnes – ICT, Maths and English Tutor
The tutor, Sara, has been teaching for over 30 years, from primary to adult, geography to ICT! She retrained to teach both maths and English when teaching ICT courses at All Saints' Learning Centre in Cockermouth as most queries were about writing letters correctly and how to do percentages!  She has taught Functional English and maths courses with Adults for over 10 years.
 
Sara originally taught several PTLLS courses for Cumbria through City & Guilds but more recently has successfully taught several L3 Education & Training Award courses for another training provider through Highfield.
David Halliday – Financial Tutor
David has been a teacher for 24 years, beginning his career in Adult Education before working full-time in a secondary school Services for 14 years. Prior to going into teaching he worked for 21 years in Financial Services and he has also been employed in the voluntary sector. Therefore he brings a wide perspective and a practical appreciation to his sessions while giving learners an opportunity to reflect upon their own experiences.
Dave Wilson – Photography Tutor
Dave has been taking photographs since the age of 6 and has worked commercially since 1999.  Mostly self-taught Dave has a wealth of freelance and wedding photography experience and an understanding of practical photography.
Emma Vickery – English Tutor
I am a qualified teacher with a degree in English Language and Literature (BA Hons). I am a TEFL qualified teacher with experience of working for a number of years in a language school and for a private tuition company.
Jennifer Bulman – IT Tutor
Jennifer has delivered many IT courses over the last 18 years including Beginners/Basic IT, NVQ level II, ECDL and ITQ level 1 and 2. Jennifer has attained Microsoft Expert Status in the Office Suite. Her courses are a great learning experience but also enjoyable.
Francesca Jones – English Tutor
Francesca studied at the University of Cumbria and gained her BA Hons in education in 2011. Her specialism is English.  Prior to her degree Francesca been an educator since 2002 teaching adults and young learners. She works hard to create learning that motivates and engages learners to reach their full potential.
