Curriculum Introduction
There are lots of reasons to join one of our excellent maths classes; one of the main factors is that our learners have lots of fun and do really well, under the guidance of our expert tutors.
We offer a range of courses, both accredited provision (leading to a recognised qualification) and non-accredited classes such as Step Up classes, which allow you to gain confidence and skills before progressing onto a qualification course.
We offer qualifications ranging from Entry Level up to GCSE and we have also introduced a Stepping Stones qualification this year, which allows extra time to master the skills required to be able to progress to Functional Skills Mathematics.  This qualification is mapped to the new Functional Skills specification and provides a fantastic opportunity to polish your knowledge and move confidently to the Functional Skills Level 1 Maths course.
We are able to offer a personalised progression path that will help you achieve more than you ever imagined you could.  We ask you to complete an initial assessment that helps us identify your starting point; we then offer information, advice and guidance as to which path will help you reach your individual potential.
Our experienced and enthusiastic tutors offer excellent levels of support and work to set and track realistic, but challenging, personal targets.  These targets are set so that you can measure your own progress and stretch yourself further.
We are able to offer mathematics classes in a variety of settings across Cumbria, so we should be able to offer a course in your local area.  Furthermore, we generally have smaller than average sized classes, allowing our tutors to offer more individual time and personalised support to each learner.  This supportive and learner focused process has resulted in excellent achievement rates across both mathematics and English. We regularly achieve results that are much higher than national average and we pride ourselves in always striving to do more! This is testimony to the hard work of both tutors and learners and we are rightly very proud of this successful collaboration.
In response to the Covid 19 outbreak and subsequent lockdown, we have developed an effective online or blended offering for learners. This has been hugely popular and we have now included this as a standard offering for 2020-2021; please check out what is being offered across the county.
Why not join one of our classes?

Learner Comments / Case Study
"I just wanted to write you an e-mail to say how much I have enjoyed maths with my Tutor Donald you over the last 2 years. I wish my maths teacher at secondary school was like you, I would've passed my GCSE all those years ago. I am so glad I took the decision to retake my GCSE, not only has my confidence grown in maths but personally and I've made new lifelong friends too.

I will miss maths lessons every week but the skills you have taught me are being used daily by me. Your teaching is amazing, supportive and understanding, like I say if only you'd been my teacher!"

"Paul is a young man with aspirations to become a PE teacher. In 2018-2019 he achieved his GCSE Mathematics and English and has secured a place to study to become a PE teacher with a university"
Resource Links
For Functional Skills Maths and GCSE Maths, we use BKSB and MyMaths e-learning systems.
Learners can access these online at home in addition to use in the classroom, after being provided with a user account and password by their tutor. Initial and diagnostic assessments are all done on BKSB and individual ILPs are created for each learner. MyMaths is very useful for consolidating learning at home and the tutor can give homework on the MyMaths assessment portal.
